Ballentine Tapped to Lead CSU Institute for Palliative Care

Jennifer Moore Ballentine has been named the new executive director of the CSU Institute for Palliative Care.

The institute, which is based at California State University San Marcos, offers instructor-led and self-paced online learning to palliative care workers worldwide.

Ballentine is taking over Sept. 25 for founding executive director Helen McNeal, who plans to retire in October.

Ballentine, who founded and built a successful business in academic book production and publishing, has since 2014 served as president of consulting service The Iris Project. Her work there focused on initiatives to improve palliative care through education, policy development, practice and systems change, according to the institute.

Previously, she served as executive director of Life Quality Institute in Denver; worked as a research program strategist for the Denver Hospice-University of Colorado School of Medicine; and was director of programs for the Colorado Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.

Ballentine has a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Oberlin College and a master’s degree in end-of-life studies from Regis University.
