Attorney Gets Kick Out of Delivering Self-Defense Message

Attorney Bradley Weinreb knows a lot about defense and self-defense.

Now he’s selling local businesses on the importance of learning more about self-defense issues , both in theory and practice.

Weinreb got the idea to bring defense law and self-defense tactics to businesses from his own marital arts instructor, Joey Larocque, after he presented the concept to his colleagues at California Department of Justice in June.

The presentation went so well that Weinreb decided to build his own enterprise around it.

His firm, Executive Self Defense, LLC, has dispensed the self-defense message into local companies since June, but Weinreb is worried that few people will seek preventative measures.

“I firmly believe people are not concerned enough about security and self-awareness and only become concerned when they or someone they know become a victim of a crime,” he said.

Martin Goodman, who runs the real estate firm Residential Capital in Downtown San Diego, said he called Weinreb to prepare his 15-member staff.

Weinreb spends about 45 minutes talking about legal concepts, including liability issues when an attacker is injured or when someone defends a third person from an assaulter as well as violence at the workplace.

He also discusses solutions to avoid conflict at the workplace, teaches self-awareness and some simple fighting techniques.

Goodman described the program as “providing basic understanding of what you should and shouldn’t do and basic moves how to protect yourself.”

Weinreb has studied martial arts since he was 7 and holds a black belt in Shaolin Ch’uan Fa.

Weinreb and Goodman declined to give a price. For information on Executive Self Defense, go to (www.executiveselfdefense.com).
