San Diego-headquartered shipping services provider Annex Brands Inc. has acquired Colorado-based Pak Mail Centers of America Inc. The purchase price was not disclosed in an announcement by the privately held companies.
This is the sixth acquisition since 2006 for Annex Brands, which owns several franchised retail brands including Postal Annex, Navis Pack & Ship, and AIM Mail Center.
“This is a monumental acquisition for us, one we’ve been looking forward to for quite a while,” said Jack Lentz, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Annex Brands. Lentz said the company’s growth strategy continues to follow a two-pronged approach, with acquisitions as well as sales of franchised locations.
Based in Centennial, Colo., the 30-year-old Pak Mail Centers has more than 370 locations worldwide, providing shipping, crating and freight services for commercial and residential customers. As with other Annex brands, Pak Mail ships parcels via several carriers, including UPS, FedEx, DHL and the U.S. Postal Service.
Officials said Pak Mail’s former CEO, Alex Zai, will continue with Annex Brands in a new role that was not specified. The acquisition brings Annex Brands’ franchise location count to more than 820 in 43 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Mexico and Japan.
Annex Brands Inc., formerly known as Postal Annex Inc., was founded in 1985 by Jack and Marty Lentz. The company reported systemwide sales of approximately $152 million in 2014.
