Altman Is Named Managing Partner at KPMG

Beth Altman has been named managing partner of accounting firm KPMG LLP’s San Diego office.

Altman is the seventh managing partner in San Diego office’s 53-year history, and the first woman to lead it. She succeeds David Down, who will retire Sept. 30 after 38 years with KPMG, all in the San Diego office.

“I look forward to working with our tremendous team of partners and professionals to help our clients adapt and thrive in today’s ever-changing environment,” Altman said.

Altman began her career with KPMG in St. Louis in 1993 and became a partner in 2004. She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana University, is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the AICPA, and is a CPA in California. She is on the board of The Old Globe theater, Educational Enrichment Systems and KPMG’s Family for Literacy.

Altman has experience working with clients ranging from venture-backed startups to complex global public companies in the life sciences, technology and consumer market sectors, said Mark Hutchins, KPMG’s regional managing partner.

“With her deep commitment to serving our clients, developing our people and making a difference in the San Diego community, I am confident she will be highly successful in her new role,” he said.

KPMG was the No. 4 accounting firm on the San Diego Business Journal’s most recent list of accounting firms, as ranked by the number of local professionals as of March 1. The firm reported having 167 local professionals and 225 total full-time employees in its office on Executive Drive.
