Signatures to Repeal Short-Term Rentals Ordinance Verified

The San Diego Office of the City Clerk has verified that the signatures gathered and submitted for a referendum to repeal an ordinance that will set stiff limitations on short-term rentals have qualified the legislative act for repeal by the City Council or by the city voters.

The petition will be presented to the City Council at its Oct. 8 meeting, at which point the council can either rescind the ordinance or place it before the voters on a future ballot.

“Over 62,000 San Diegans signed the petition to stop the de-facto ban on short-term rentals because they agree there is a better solution than the onerous law that was passed,” proponents of short-term rentals Share San Diego, Airbnb and Homeaway said collectively via a statement Sept. 25. “Short-term rentals are an important property right that help owners, managers and hosts earn valuable extra income, contribute needed tax revenue to the city’s budget and have long been a part of the fabric of San Diego.”
