San Diego Named No. 7 Best Large City in the U.S. by Conde Nast Traveler

Conde Nast Traveler has announced the winners of its 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards and San Diego has been named the 7th best large city in the United States.

More than 715,000 Conde Nast Traveler readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences across the world. The 33rd Readers’ Choice Awards is the first time voters participated in the tally when almost no one is traveling.

“Several years ago, travelers headed to San Diego might have wondered what they would do in the city, besides hitting the beaches. No longer,” reads the San Diego entry. “With a recent string of hot hotel openings (like the Guild in June 2019 and the Carte just a few months later) and a legit food scene that offers up some of the best Mexican dishes and seafood platters you’ll ever taste, San Diego has officially stepped out from the shadow of its big sister due north, earning world-class destination status that goes well beyond the waves. Come for the sunshine, sure; but stay for everything else.”

Additionally, a number of local spots were featured in the Top 20 Hotels in Southern California list, including: The Fairmont Grand Del Mar (No. 5), Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa (No. 13), L’Auberge Del Mar (No. 14), Pendry San Diego (No. 16) and The US Grant (No. 19).

Separately, San Diego’s Kona Kai Resort & Spa (No. 3), Park Hyatt Aviara Resort (No. 5), Rancho Bernardo Inn (No. 7) and The Lodge at Torrey Pines (No. 11) made the Top Resorts in Southern California tally.
