The Board of Port Commissioners has approved plans for a 400-room, dual-branded hotel development on the former site of the Lane Field ballpark in downtown San Diego. The project will next be reviewed by the California Coastal Commission.
Estimated at $115 million, the development would include a 250-room hotel similar to a Hilton Garden Inn, and an extended-stay hotel with 150 rooms similar to a Homewood Suites, although officials said the actual hotel operators and brands have not been finalized.
The hotels would be built in a single tower at Broadway and Pacific Highway, sharing common elevators but with separate lobbies. Plans also call for retail and restaurant space, with 442 parking spaces.
The project is being developed by a group that includes Lankford & Associates, Phelps Development and John Portman & Associates.
