Makers of an app called younity have pulled in $8 million of series A funding.
Encinitas-based Entangled Media Inc., which is going by the name younity, made the announcement on Dec. 3.
Younity is a consumer product that works with collections of videos, music, photos and other documents. In short, the company said, the app is a cloud service for unifying personal media across all mobile devices and computers. The business says its product is a simple and free app similar to that offered by Plex Inc.
Marker LLC of New York led the funding round, and will put a representative on the younity board. Also participating were Draper Associates and PROfounders Capital.
The business has brought in $11.25 million in funding so far.
The business said it planned to use the new capital to improve its product, hire more employees and expand its offices. The company also has an office in Boulder, Colo.
Erik Caso is the company’s CEO and a co-founder.
