Viasat Inc. (Nasdaq: VSAT) announced in mid-July that two airlines had launched its high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi service.
Finnair is launching in-flight internet service on European flights, the Carlsbad company said July 19. The carrier plans to test the technology for two months. Viasat service has been installed on six Finnair narrow-body Airbus aircraft; some 20 aircraft are expected to have the service by the end of summer.
That follows news that EL AL Israel Airlines had launched Viasat’s in-flight Wi-Fi. As of July 12, some 15 Boeing aircraft had been outfitted with Viasat’s latest equipment. The gear is going on EL AL’s 787 and 737 models. Eutelsat — Viasat’s joint-venture partner — is providing the satellite capacity over Europe.
