With the killing of George Floyd, the fact that social injustice still exists in our society became instantly magnified. Reactions nationwide have been extraordinary.
Real change always starts on the local level. An immediate step we can all take is to support Black-owned businesses as they begin to recover from these unprecedented times.
Toward that end, we are honored to partner with the Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce to assist in building awareness of raising $1 million for their Black Business Relief Grant Fund. The San Diego Business Journal is donating full pages starting with this issue for each week for the next month.
There are more than 262,000 businesses in San Diego County and 22,000 are Black owned. The San Diego business community can and should take action. We are a diverse region and we can each show our support to Black-owned businesses by not just reaching the chamber’s goal of $1 million by August 31, 2020, but by exceeding it.
The San Diego Business Journal represents the community of business. It is on our masthead. Expanding and including Black-owned businesses to help them succeed is our goal. Please join us in meeting this aspiration.
