SAN DIEGO – Longtime Qualcomm employee Akash Palkhiwala, who has served as the company’s chief financial officer since 2019, has taken on an additional role as chief operating officer.
Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM) announced the move on Tuesday (Jan. 23).
As COO, Palkhiwala will oversee Qualcomm’s global go-to-market organization and operations, as well as information technology.
“I’m pleased to expand Akash’s CFO role to include that of chief operating officer as Qualcomm executes on its growth and diversification strategy,” said Cristiano Amon, president and CEO of Qualcomm, in a statement released by the company. “Akash has played a key role in the execution of our business strategy as Qualcomm has expanded into new end markets, and is ideally positioned to further align the company’s operations to capture future growth opportunities. I am thrilled to congratulate Akash on this expanded role.”
Palkhiwala has been part of Qualcomm’s senior finance leadership team for more than 15 years, at one time serving as treasurer. Prior to taking the CFO’s job in 2019, he was senior vice president and finance lead for QCT, Qualcomm’s semiconductor business. He also served in financial planning and analysis as well as corporate development. Palkhiwala joined Qualcomm in 2001.
Prior to joining Qualcomm, Palkhiwala was an analyst at KeyBank.
He holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from L.D. College of Engineering in India and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
