Congratulations to new San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation Board Chair Julian Parra, region executive at Bank of America. Parra replaces outgoing chair Janice Brown. According the EDC, as San Diego “works to recover from a global pandemic and faces systemic race and equity issues that plague all metropolitan economies, the EDC is continuing to drive an inclusive growth and recovery strategy.”
“While we are all facing many challenges right now, we also see opportunity. I look forward to working with EDC’s team to ensure that all San Diegan’s have access to opportunities so that we can position our region for the right recovery,” Parra said.
As chair, Parra is supported by four officers: Vice Chair, Rob Douglas, president and COO, ResMed; Vice Chair, Jennie Brooks, senior vice president, Booz Allen Hamilton; Treasurer, Phil Blair, president and CEO at Manpower San Diego; and Secretary, Tom Seidler, senior vice president community affairs, San Diego Padres.
Along with the election of the new chair, EDC’s board also elected three new board members: Tonya Cross, senior vice president people and corporate operations, Lytx Inc.; Heather Ace, executive vice president of human resources, Qualcomm Inc.; and Sandra McDonough, partner, Paul Plevin Sullivan and Connaughton LLP.

On June 1, the San Ysidro Health and the local private practice Careview Medical Group merged creating a system of health care for more than 105,000 San Diegans. Now under the San Ysidro Health network, Careview Medical Group has been renamed Careview Health Center.
“After 40 years of private practice serving the communities of Southeast San Diego, I am delighted to have the Careview Health Center join the San Ysidro Health family,” said Rodney Hood, M.D., CEO and managing partner at the Careview Medical Group.
Through the new partnership, both organizations will have an opportunity to provide a wider range of comprehensive health services to their patients.
Kevin Mattson, president and CEO of San Ysidro Health said “our organization is grateful and excited to have Careview Health Center join the San Ysidro Health family,”
The new expanded organization will continue to provide essential, accessible and affordable health care services for vulnerable families across San Dieigo County. Interestingly, the non-profit San Ysidro Health was founded more than 50 years ago by seven women in search of medical services for their children. Families have always been their central focus.

After 40 years, Susan Chicoine, public relations director for The Old Globe retired on June 5. In a release, which I think is probably the best way for a long time public relations professional to announce her retirement, she says “My time here at the Globe has been wonderful, with Barry Edelstein at the helm – I have been a fan since his days at the helm of Classic Stage Company, and the team he built here – with amazing talents in artistic, admin, production, arts engagement and all the departments working together to ‘Make Theatre Matter to More People’ is beyond compare, and will be missed.”
She is retiring after doing theatre PR in San Diego, NYC, and across the country. In San Diego she worked at Broadway San Diego, the Rep and Moxie to the Fleet. She says she is not going anywhere, but will be joining her partner Mike Reynolds in “retirement bliss.”
Best wishes to her and I look forward to the Old Globe being back with live performances and as strong as ever.
