Qualcomm Inc. announced early Dec. 29 that it reached patent licensing deals with two more Chinese companies, Tianyu and Haier.
The news came one day after Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) announced a similar deal with a third Chinese enterprise, QiKu.
The two deals announced Dec. 29 allow the licensees to manufacture and sell third- and fourth-generation wireless technology, including the three-mode communication devices that are unique to China. The agreements conform to terms set by the Chinese government in February.
Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment Co. Ltd. also goes by the name K-Touch. It does business in Africa and Europe in addition to Asia.
Qingdao Haier Telecom Co. Ltd. is a Chinese home appliance and consumer electronics brand. Haier bills itself as the world’s No. 1 brand of consumer appliances.
Shares of Qualcomm closed 2.6 percent higher on Dec. 29, at $50.88. The market in general advanced on Dec. 29, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing 1.1 percent higher and the Standard & Poor’s 500 closing up 1.06 percent.
