San Diego-based Qelzal Corp., which makes an innovative sensor technology that can help drones avoid collision, has received a $224,950 small business innovation research grant from the National Science Foundation. The company made the announcement in January.
The company said it plans to use the grant to conduct research and development work on novel ways to achieve machine vision and integrate multiple sensors to detect and avoid all types of obstacles and flying aircraft.
The company is eligible to apply for a Phase II grant of up to $750,000.
“As a small business, receiving funding is fantastic. However, equally important is the endorsement that an NSF grant represents,” said Rob Benson, CEO of Qelzal, in a prepared statement.
