Cubic Corp. said on June 20 that its transportation business received a $276 million contract from Queensland, Australia.
Cubic (NYSE: CUB) will provide mass-transit ticketing service to the state on Australia’s east coast. The region includes Brisbane, a city of 2.5 million people. Cubic has been serving the market since 2003.
The new system will let Queensland commuters use their bankcards, mobile phones and connected watches to pay for travel on public transportation.
Kearny Mesa-based Cubic splits its business between defense contracting and technology for mass transit agencies. It had $1.49 billion in sales in fiscal 2017.
