San Diego has more than doubled its number of electric vehicle charging ports, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer and other city officials announced Feb. 15.
Using money from a $500,000 grant from the California Energy Commission, the city was able to boost its EV ports count from 32 to 68.
There are now 57 charging stations spread across 15 locations citywide.
“We hope that by locating charging stations in popular destinations, it’s easier and more convenient to use electric vehicles as well as encourage more people to purchase electric vehicles,” Faulconer said in a news release.
The city applied for the CEC grant together with the Center for Sustainable Energy, San Diego Gas & Electric Co. and OpConnect, a maker and operator of charging stations.
