San Diego tech startup Tiled just closed a $13.7 million Series A funding round and the company’s CEO wants to hire at least 30 more software developers and engineers by the end of 2021.
“This is a generational opportunity for Tiled,” said Darrell Swain, founder and CEO, who reports the company is seeing 211 percent year-over-year growth.
Tiled’s no-code “microapps” let non-developers create rich, interactive content that mirrors native apps or fully coded websites.
Unlike presentations that move in linear order from one slide to the next, microapps contain multiple pathways through content like a web page or mobile app.
The no-code nature of Tiled’s product is “key,” Swain said. “That’s the gap that we fill in this world right now.”
Swain started TIled in 2016 and oversaw small funding rounds in 2018 and 2019. The Series A round, announced Sept. 8, was led by Signal Peak Ventures. Seismic, Adobe and University Growth Fund also participated alongside existing investors.
Swain said he is proud to have companies like Seismic and Adobe as investors – and strategic partners.
“We’re doing some amazing things right now with the Seismic team,” he said.
So far this year, Tiled’s employee headcount has increased by more than 50% − and the company has added 99 new customers, according to Swain, including HubSpot, Paycor, Instructure, Skullcandy and CHRISTUS Health.
Swain said Tiled’s no-code product closes the gap between content authoring and content delivery.
“Documents are essential to business, but they haven’t kept pace with the experience users expect from the most highly engaging and personalized content today,” said Swain. “Thanks to the support of our investors and strategic partnerships with Seismic and Adobe, we can continue to scale our product to support the growing number of enterprise teams evolving how their audiences engage with content and measure impact, with microapps.”
The Tiled platform enables enterprise teams to assemble content into interactive experiences, called microapps, by fully integrating with the existing creative programs and work technologies that companies already use.
Tiled lets users assemble microapps using Adobe XD, InDesign, Photoshop, Sketch, Figma, PowerPoint, Google Slides and other design tools.
Industry experts estimate up to 80% of technology products and services will be built by non-tech professionals by 2024, fueling the increasing appetite for no-code platforms in the post-pandemic digital landscape.
Phil Williams, partner at Signal Peak Ventures, said Signal Peak focuses on “high growth companies with great teams and game-changing technology. And that’s what we see in Tiled.”
