World Trade Center San Diego, the international arm of San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, along with Rep. Scott Peters and San Diego Councilmember Raul Campillo are leading a trade delegation to Singapore this week.
The two dozen San Diego delegates include business representatives from Cubic, Mitsubishi Electric, Qualcomm, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, Visaic and Biolinq, as well as representatives from civic and educational organizations.
Singapore was “a standout choice” for the trade mission, according to WTCSD Executive Director and San Diego Regional EDC Senior Vice President Nikia Clarke, because of the city’s similarities to San Diego. Singapore has a binational identity, with the Singapore-Johor border seeing nearly 1.6 times the number of border crossings as the San Diego-Tijuana’s border. Singapore is also an attractive friendshoring region for U.S. businesses looking to leave China.
“As gateway regions, Singapore-Malaysia in Asia and San Diego-Tijuana in the Americas will anchor the critical supply chains of the future,” Clarke said. “We’re here to deepen international ties and maximize our economic impact.”
