Royston was a co-founder of Hybritech Inc., San Diego’s first biotechnology firm in 1978 and is one of the fathers of the region’s life science hub. After Hybritech was purchased by Eli Lilly in 1986, hundreds of spinouts launched the foundation of San Diego’s biotech hub. He has founded and invested in dozens of biotech firms over the years.
