Caterpillar, the Illinois-based maker of earthmovers, has long produced industrial gas turbines in San Diego through subsidiary Solar Turbines. Tom Pellette serves as president of Solar Turbines, overseeing the design, manufacture and service of gas turbine systems and compressors. Such equipment is central to oil and gas production and is also used for power generation. More than 70% of Solar’s products are exported from the United States
