A self-described “academic entrepreneur,” over the course of 40 years, Mary Walshok has built UC San Diego Extension into a powerhouse, with 100,000 students enrolled and a continuing education portfolio admired nationwide. The author of six books and many articles, Walshok, who has been at UCSD since 1972, is a thought leader in the field of workforce and economic development. In 2022, she spearheaded the opening of UCSD’s new downtown center at Park and Market.
