PRESIDENT, MIRACOSTA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT
Sunita “Sunny” Cooke has been an educator for nearly 30 years and began her tenure as the superintendent/president of MiraCosta Community College District in 2015. She has been a California Community College CEO for 15 years. Under her leadership, MiraCosta College has implemented new degrees and certificates including a biomanufacturing bachelor’s degree – and the college’s academic and student equity programs have been recognized by the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. Cooke was recognized in 2016 as San Diego Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business and the NAACP Salute to Women of Color. She earned her Ph.D. in Biology from Georgetown University
