Shopping Center Industry Leaders Converge

About 3,000 people were expected to attend the International Council of Shopping Centers’ annual Western Conference, running Sept. 22-24 at the San Diego Convention Center.

Brittany Hays, a spokeswoman for the New York-based trade group, said about 2,900 participants from throughout the Western United States had registered to attend the gathering as of Sept. 21, on par with last year’s event.

Hays said the Western Conference event is among the best-attended annual gatherings of the shopping center group, though not as large as its annual spring national convention in Las Vegas, which drew more than 25,000 in May.

The group’s Western Conference, being held for the fourth consecutive year in San Diego, is geared largely to networking and deal-making among shopping center developers, property brokers, retailers and municipal government leaders.
