Sea Change Comes To Local Red Lobsters

The 700-unit Red Lobster restaurant chain completes the remodeling of two local outlets, one at 3780 Sports Arena Blvd. and another at 8330 Mira Mesa Blvd. The two restaurants have been a fixture for the past 25 years, and are getting a renovation, according to a spokesperson. The re-do is part of a revamping of the menu as well as other changes for the seafood purveyor, a division of Darden Concepts Inc., which bills itself as the world’s largest full-service restaurant operating company. The chain also donated furnishings from remodeled restaurants to the local Habitat for Humanity resale outlet, which raise funds to pay for new housing construction for poor families … Space age milepost: Carlsbad’s ViaSat Inc. notes that 285,000 customers have signed on for its satellite-based Internet service, which the public company launched a year ago. In a news release, the company says that it now serves a total of 500,000 customers for Internet services provided by all of its satellites … Aculief, a patented wearable acupressure device developed and marketed by San Diego-based prototyping company Leardon Solutions, wins a best of press award at the recent Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim. The Aculief device applies pressure between the thumb and forefinger providing tension relief… San Diego State University’s many graduate programs were named among the nation’s best as rated by U.S. News and World Report in its annual ranking of graduate schools. Overall, the school ranked in the top 50 for public business schools and in the top 10 in California … That’s not all. Professional Woman’s Magazine places SDSU’s College of Business Administration among the Top MBA Schools in the nation on its 2013 Best of the Best Lists. SDSU was one of just six institutions to be named in both the top MBA schools list and top universities list — the other five being Cornell University, Harvard University, UCLA, University of Chicago and Yale University … Social notes: The VinDiego Wine and Food Festival is set for April 6. The festival will showcase San Diego’s restaurants along with tastings of 300 types of wines from 75 wineries. More information can be found at vinsandiego.com … The La Jolla Playhouse extends the number of performances for its experimental production of “Accomplice: San Diego,” best described as an “immersive experience with Little Italy as a backdrop.” The audience is led to various locations to help a collection of shady characters as part of the plot on screen and off. “Performances” are held every 30 minutes.
