T.B. Penick Completes Work on $12 Million Sheriff’s Station

San Diego-based general contractor T.B. Penick & Sons Inc. has completed construction on the $12 million Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s station in Spring Valley. Company officials said the 25,400-square-foot design-build facility, at 11486 Campo Road, was built by the county for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The one-story building, designed by Jeff Katz Architecture, includes patrol operations, office space and support facilities for approximately 90 employees relocated from the Lemon Grove sheriff’s station. The station serves the suburban and rural communities of Rancho San Diego, Spring Valley, La Presa, Jamul, Casa del Oro, Mt. Helix and unincorporated areas of La Mesa and El Cajon.

The station will also serve as an incident command post, to cover emergency situations such as earthquakes and fires.

Steve Penner, project manager with T.B. Penick, said the construction team is targeting Silver certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. The building has sustainable features including recycled building materials, natural day lighting and low-water-use landscaping.
