Scripps Health broke ground on its new, $175 million medical office building at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla – part of a $2 billion renovation plan for the campus.
The six-story, 175,000-square-foot building, called the Scripps Clinic John R. Anderson V Medical Pavillion, is expected to be complete in 2016. It will have offices for a variety of specialties, including cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology and endocrinology. It will also have four cardiac catheterization labs that will allow physicians to perform certain heart procedures in an outpatient setting.
La Jolla couple Eileen and John “Jack” R. Anderson IV donated about $25 million to fund the clinic, in memory of their son who died from cancer in 2004. Anderson, a retired structural engineer, owned Pasadena-based architecture and engineering company R. Anderson and Associates.
The campus is in the midst of heavy construction – the seven-story Prebys Cardiovascular Institute, a 167-bed building that costs about $456 million – is slated to open next year. The Scripps Memorial La Jolla renovation calls for two more hospital towers to be built by 2025.
