Renters with cash to spare can finally move into what has to be one of the priciest apartments in San Diego County — the penthouse suite atop Park 12 — The Collection overlooking Petco Park.
Built by Greystar, construction has just wrapped up on the $400 million complex — the biggest downtown with 718 apartments ranging from 518 square-foot studios to that top floor penthouse with 2,824 square feet of space on two levels.
Monthly rents run from $1,909 to $20,000 for that penthouse, which is still available, according to Jerry Brand, senior managing director of West Coast development for Greystar.
As of early May, 262 apartments had been leased.
Brand figures the penthouse will likely go to a celebrity — maybe someone connected to one of the ball teams that play in Petco Park.
Monthly rents in the 37-story tower that is at the center of Park is about $500 more per apartment than the rent for apartments in the three shorter buildings in the complex.
“The rent is high, but everything’s here,” Brand said. “The number one thing residents are looking for is pride when they show family or friends their home. You get that 10 times here.”
As you might expect, Park 12 is chock full of amenities, including a lobby lounge that offers doggie treats, and separate dog parks for big and little dogs, two swimming pools, multiple rooftop terraces, landscaped courtyards and barbecue areas scattered throughout the grounds, and a free coworking space for residents.
“A lot of the people who live here have their own businesses,” Brandt said.
A sports lounge/game room was added almost as an afterthought.
“It was vacant space,” Brandt said. “We brainstormed, what could we do that’s unique?”
The game room has updated versions of classic video games, like “Pac-Man,” a miniature bowling alley much like those used for duck pin bowling with balls and pins smaller than those used in the more popular ten-pin bowling, a golf putting green and a simulated golf course that can be computer programed to mimic many of the world’s top courses.
There’s also a karaoke room, pool table, card tables, a Ping-Pong table, and shuffle board.
The ground floor includes space for a variety of restaurants and other businesses, including several that have already moved in, such as Holy Macha Tea and F-45 fitness.
Still to come is an ice cream shop, a pharmacy and studios for yoga and rock climbing.
“We’re trying to create our own quality environment,” Brand said.
