New $8 Million Luxury Apartments Keep Connection to the Past

A North Park apartment project that blends 1920s cottages with sleek new structures overlooking Florida Canyon is on schedule to be finished in mid-July by Wright Management.

The $8 million Indiana Street Luxury Apartments project was especially challenging because it involved moving two vintage cottages from North Park to Jamul to make room for the new portion of the project and restoring two cottages that remained on the site.

A two-story, 2,950 square foot building and an adjacent four-story 27,200 square foot building have been finished and are available for leasing.

Some work is continuing in restoring the cottages, although that should be done by the end of July, said Debra Aitkin, director of project strategy for Wright Management.

“It’s a nice juxtaposition. It really is great,” Aitkin said. “They’ve been refreshed and they look charming against that very clean, tailored look of the luxury apartments,”

Selective Upgrades

The cottages were refinished to look pretty much as they did when they were built, although the bathrooms have been redone to meet modern sensibilities.

The wood floors and fireplace have been spruced up but otherwise, left untouched.

“We haven’t done any major changes at all,” Aitken said.

Monthly rents in the two new structures range from $2,700 to $5,100.

The apartments range from 735 square feet to 1,040 square feet, with a penthouse on the top floor that has a roof deck that is the entire width of the apartment.

Monthly rents for the 700 square foot cottages are going for $2,400 a month.

Paul Davis of AVRP Skyport was the overall designer of the new structures. Wright Management designed the interiors.

“The project was designed and built with condominium standards in mind,” Aitkin said.

The larger of the two new buildings has a parking garage on the bottom level.
