Property owner Bixby Land Co. recently signed Berkley Insurance Co. as the first tenant at Aero, the renovated former FBI office building at 9797 Aero Drive in Kearny Mesa. Financial terms of the lease were not disclosed.
A statement from Newport Beach-based Bixby Land Co. said the insurance company has leased the full second floor of the building, taking 23,418 square feet in a relocation from Mission Valley.
The building owner was represented in the lease transaction by Derek Hulse, Derek Applbaum and Tom Mercer of Colliers International. Berkley Insurance was represented by Darren Morgan of Cushman & Wakefield.
Bixby Land Co. recently completed a $10 million renovation of the four-story, 92,463-square-foot Kearny Mesa building, adding elements including a fitness center, a lobby lounge area and indoor-outdoor gathering spaces.
The company is set to begin a similar renovation of an older office campus in Sorrento Mesa, to be called The Oberlin and set for completion in the second half of 2016.
