Some Military Construction May Wait for Border Wall

San Diego County has its share of military construction projects that might take a back seat to construction of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Pentagon released a list of projects which have not yet been awarded, but which could be postponed so their funds could be diverted under an emergency measure funding President Donald Trump’s border barrier.

No final decision has been made about which project may be delayed.

Among the projects under scrutiny, according to the Pentagon’s Fact Sheet on Section 2808 Funding Pool:

$77.8 million for airfield improvements at Naval Base Coronado.

$49.4 million for a maintenance and warehouse facility for amphibious vehicles at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

$48.7 million for the Pier 8 replacement project at Naval Base San Diego.

$47.2 million for potable water distribution improvements at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

$20.5 million for vertical landing pads for F-35 aircraft at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
