Port Seeking Developer for Shelter Island Gateway

The Unified Port of San Diego is seeking qualified developers to redevelop the gateway to Shelter Island, the port said.

A request for proposals was issued for the redevelopment of the Shelter Island Drive entrance corridor, located on the southeast corner of Shelter Island Drive and Anchorage Lane.

An information exchange is scheduled for June 2014 to respond to questions from potential developers. Proposals are scheduled to be submitted by mid-August.

Proposers must have development and operations experience, including a successful track record and the financial ability to develop waterfront property.

The project includes constructing two buildings to house local marine businesses and demolishing existing buildings to make way for a public promenade along the shoreline and better views of the Shelter Island Yacht Basin, the port said.

Improved public amenities include park enhancement, a public shoreline walkway, shoreline protection, adequate parking and a dinghy dock that must be and maintained by the proposer.
