Construction Permits Valuations Rise 46 Percent in San Diego County

San Diego County construction activity, measured in building permit valuations, rose 46 percent in the first 10 months of 2011 compared with the same period a year ago, according to the latest data from the Construction Industry Research Board.

Figures released Nov. 22 by the nonprofit industry research bureau showed that builders took out more than $1.9 billion in residential and commercial permits from January to October, compared with just over $1.3 billion in the same period of 2010. Figures cover new construction, renovation and expansion projects.

Residential permit valuations were up 30 percent, to just over $1 billion, boosted largely by multifamily projects, where the total valuation more than doubled year-over-year.

Commercial permits rose 70 percent, to more than $913 million, largely thanks to a 62 percent jump in renovation and expansion projects.
