AGC Awards Balfour Beatty for Santee Detention Facility

The Associated General Contractors of America named Balfour Beatty Construction the winner of its Alliant Build America award for Marvin M. Black Partnering Excellence for the Las Colinas Detention and Re-entry Facility in Santee.

The national award is named after AGC past president Marvin M. Black and recognizes the projects that exemplify the best principles of partnering.

The facility was recognized as one of the best construction projects of 2015. The project was valued at $221.5 million.

“The contractors working on these projects stood out among their peers by demonstrating the finest traits of our industry: skill, dedication, and ingenuity,” said Charles Greco, the association’s president, in a news release. “This is the kind of project that inspires other contractors to push even harder as they work to improve our built environment.”

The facility includes 25 buildings on 45 acres. It has 464,000 square feet of building space and was created so that inmates could receive an education, pre-employment training, recreation services, religious and library services and inmate industries.

Balfour Beatty completed the project on time and with zero recordable incidents.
