Downtown San Diego has a new hotel — the 19-story Hotel Republic San Diego at 421 W. B St., in what was formerly the W Hotel, renovated throughout.
Billed as a “boutique property,” the Hotel Republic opened Nov. 8 and is part of Autograph Collection Hotels.
The reworked hotel was designed by Bluemotif Architecture of San Diego and Forchielli Glynn of Los Angeles, with 258 guest rooms ranging from king and double rooms to a 1,250 square-foot presidential suite.
The hotel also has three dining rooms, 16,000 square feet of private meeting and event space, and a VIP Marriott Rewards Veranda Lounge.
“We are thrilled to debut our first Autograph property in downtown San Diego to showcase the unique history of San Diego and the city’s coastal connections,” said Amanda Altree, global brand marketing director for Autograph Collection.
The hotel has partnered with The Patio Group restaurateurs with Executive Chef Amol Thanky overseeing three restaurants — the Topside Terrace Kitchen & Bar on an open-air third floor terrace, the Trade anchoring the lobby with seating for 57, and The Patio Marketplace offering quick-service healthy options as well as full-service dining in its street side bistro setting.
The Topside Terrace will double as a venue for neighborhood gatherings, social activities and private events.
The hotel will offer yoga classes, culinary classes, art exhibits and complimentary beach cruiser bicycles for guests.
