The San Diego office of general contractor BNBuilders was recently awarded a $23.8 million contract to build Geffen Academy, a new college preparatory school on the campus of University of California Los Angeles.
A BNBuilders statement said the academy, serving students in grades six through 12, will be located in the existing Kinross Building on the UCLA campus. The building will be renovated to accommodate new classrooms, an assembly space, administrative offices, indoor athletic space and other building support space, with an existing outdoor area to be used for arts programs.
The project is being designed and built to achieve Silver certification under energy efficiency standards of the U.S. Green Building Council. The designer is Koning Eizenberg Architecture, with construction to begin in the first quarter of 2017 and conclude by late 2018.
The San Diego office of Seattle-based BNBuilders is led by Principal Jamie Awford.
According to UCLA, the academy is being developed following a $100 million gift to the university from philanthropist and entertainment mogul David Geffen.
