An Audubon Land Deal, Plus 2 Coming Business Arrivals

A local chapter of The Audubon Society, the prominent nature-preservation organization, has acquired approximately 31.2 acres of vacant land in Oceanside for $1.56 million, with plans to conserve it as an open space in perpetuity. Brokerage firm Lee & Associates said the land on Muirfield Drive and Rivertree Drive — near Camp Pendleton and Mission San Luis Rey — is currently unentitled.

The Audubon Society was represented by Ann Van Leer of Land Conservation Brokerage in the all-cash transaction. The sellers, Scot Cheatham and David Cheatham, were represented by Lee & Associates’ Matt Weaver, Patrick Miller and Al Apuzzo.

In East County’s Lemon Grove, an Italian restaurant called Giardino Neighborhood Cucina is slated to open this fall at 8131 Broadway. Operators are husband and wife Karina Kravalis and Marco Provino; the latter is the executive chef and previously led local venues including Osteria Panevino and Osetra.

In Carmel Valley, Newport Beach-based Just Food for Dogs has a new kitchen and store under construction and slated to open Sept. 15 at Del Mar Highlands Town Center. A statement said the company, founded in 2010 by Shawn Buckley, makes and sells healthy meals and treats for canines, free of byproducts, preservatives and toxic chemicals. With a staff that includes eight veterinarians, the company operates eight current locations in Orange and Los Angeles counties, according to its website.
