Global PR Giant Doubles U.S. Footprint

PUBLIC RELATIONS: SD’S BAM Agency Acquired by Spain’s LLYC.

San Diego-based public relations and marketing agency BAM has been acquired by powerhouse agency LLYC  in a deal that doubles LLYC’s presence in the United States.

Beck Bamberger
Founder and CEO
BAM

The March announcement will make LLYC U.S. the firm’s third largest operation with consolidated total revenues of  $17 million, only after  Spain  ($39 million) and  Mexico  ($18.1 million).

LLYC is a global communications, digital marketing and public affairs agency headquartered in Spain which operates out of 20 locations worldwide. Clients in the U.S. include DHL, Siemens, Fortinet and the  University of Arizona.

BAM’s past and current local clients include Mitek, Flock Freight, Blue Board and MedCrypt.

The initial valuation of BAM is  $13.2 million. LLYC will be acquiring an initial 80 percent stake which may be adjusted based on performance until 2025.

“The acquisition of BAM supports our international growth strategy and allows LLYC to rapidly scale in the U.S. and broaden our service proposition,” said  LLYC Global CEO Alejandro Romero. “BAM’s entrepreneurial spirit, expertise, and deep relationships with technology startups and the venture capital community set them apart from other agencies in the space. We’re thrilled to welcome the BAM team to the LLYC community.”

BAM CEO and Founder Beck Bamberger (yes, as in BAMberger) stated, “After two years of meticulous effort and more than 65 meetings with potential partners, we finally found our partner, LLYC. The agency is truly unmatched in our industry and holds the same values as us.” She added, “Joining LLYC is a natural next step in the evolution of BAM and a hugely exciting opportunity for our team. LLYC’s global reach, digital capabilities, and depth of expertise will provide BAM clients, and by extension, the venture capital ecosystem, with even more resources.”

Bamberger launched in 2008 and has since grown her company across 14 states with 35 employees. “All employees at BAM have equity in BAM. This acquisition means everyone wins, financially. That’s rare for an agency, but for the tech world, a good practice that we embraced more than 10 years ago when I established this goal to get acquired,” she added.

The San Diego native stated, “San Diego remains an underrated diamond in terms of talent, lifestyle, diversity, and opportunities. Where else can you wear flip-flops, raise $20 million in venture capital, create a lifesaving drug, and visit a factory in Mexico for a day? There is no other place.”

Bamberger is a former Emmy award-winning news reporter. She’s also a marathon runner, helicopter pilot and avid traveler with 70 countries under her belt. “Everyone has gifts. I believe one of mine is ‘capacity’ and I’m also adamant about leading a life I want right now and not ‘one day’. One day may not come. I live accordingly.”

When asked about being a woman in her role, she replied, “Don’t be a ‘woman’ or ‘female’ in leadership, business or otherwise. Sex, race, and other qualifiers can imply ‘less than’ and we need that narrative to be done. Just be the boss.”

As part of LLYC, BAM will continue to operate under its own brand. Bamberger will continue to hold a stake in the company and lead BAM’s operations.
