The event, held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, featured guests in superhero costumes, a silent auction and appetizers from chefs throughout San Diego County. The funds raised will be used to ensure San Diego County homebound seniors receive the care and support needed to keep them in good health and in their homes … Restaurants across San Diego County are participating in the 5th annual “Dollar a Dish” fundraiser benefiting the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids Backpack Program. Participating restaurants have each selected a popular dish and, throughout the month of August, will donate $1 to the backpack program for every dish sold. The program provides weekend backpacks filled with food to elementary children who receive free meals at school during the week, but might otherwise go hungry during the weekends. The funds will be used to help pay for the Career Transition Assistance Program. It is a month-long class which prepares San Diego active military and unemployed veterans for the civilian job market. “Veterans are often the most talented, mature, and experienced people showing up to job interviews. However, it is often challenging for them to find employment in the civilian workforce,” said Chuck Atkinson, president of VANC. “AT&T has really ramped up efforts to help veterans translate their skill sets to fit new opportunities.” AT&T has also increased veteran recruitment efforts and announced a hiring goal of 5,000 veterans and their families over the next 5 years as part of the company’s Joining Forces Initiative … The Barney & Barney Foundation will host the 4th annual Rock the Foundation event Sept. 19 at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.
