Harvest for Hope Supports Children, Families Battling Cancer

The Ninth Annual Harvest for Hope, presented by the Banfi Vintners Foundation benefiting the Emilio Nares Foundation, was held recently at Stingaree. It raised $80,000 for the Emilio Nares Foundation — serving low-income, underprivileged families whose children are battling cancer, through programs and services in San Diego County. John and Nancy Jo Cappetta, the Cappetta Family Foundation and Jeannie Ranglas, Metropolis Philoptochos Kids ’N’ Cancer, were this year’s honorees. They were recognized for their support and dedication to the ENF …Urban Campout 2012: A Space Odyssey was held at the San Diego Air & Space Museum to benefit Girl Scouts San Diego. Qualcomm was the presenting sponsor, and other sponsors included AT&T, Union Bank, Wells Fargo, Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation and Merrill Lynch. The $300,000 raised goes to help provide camps and travel for San Diego girls. Financial aid and outreach programs keep the Girl Scouts accessible for girls in shelters, detention centers and low-income areas. In-kind sponsors included KPBS, Karl Strauss Brewing Co. and the Westgate Hotel. TV actress June Lockhart made a special appearance … Cook & Schmid received six industry awards at the annual Public Relations Society of America Bernays Awards. Three of the awards were for its marketing program for the San Diego Natural History Museum’s “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition.” The Cook & Schmid campaign generated the highest attendance among the eight Titanic exhibits nationwide during the 100th anniversary celebration … Bethany Hamilton, award-winning surfer, author of “Soul Surfer” and star of “Natural High 6,” was honored at Natural High’s 12th Annual Sunset Splash Gala at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. Funds raised support the youth organization Natural High in order to reach its goal of reaching 12 million youth by 2015 … Bob Shuster, an Escondido resident and business owner, will receive the 2012 Escondido Distinguished Citizen Award for service to the community Oct. 24 at an awards dinner sponsored by the San Diego-Imperial Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Shuster has served on many community, philanthropic and business organization boards, including the Palomar Pomerado Health Foundation, Grace Lutheran School and San Diego County Farm Bureau. Proceeds from the dinner will support activities and programs in the 86 Scouting units that comprise the Kit Carson District in Escondido, San Marcos and Valley Center … The Elizabeth Hospice received a $5,000 contribution from Disabled American Veterans to support the Veterans Caring for Veterans Volunteer program. The gift will be used to train veterans to assist other veterans who are facing end of life or serious illness challenges … Equinox Center received a $15,000 grant from the SDG&E Environmental Champions. The funds will support the Leaders 2020 program, a civic engagement network for millennials focused on advancing a more sustainable future for the San Diego region … The Third Annual Del Sur Educational Foundation’s “Fore the Kids Golf Scramble” was held at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort. The $15,000 raised will provide funding for school “impact teachers,” as well as science programs. A lunch buffet was catered by L&L Hawaiian Barbecue.
