The Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center Jacobs Family Campus has received a $5 million donation from Joan and Irwin Jacobs. According to the center, the couple has invested in the work of the center over the past several decades and this continued investment led to this gift, the largest the center has ever received.
“Joan and Irwin’s extraordinary gift is the culmination of decades of philanthropy, leadership and inspiration they have offered to our community,” said Betzy Lynch, CEO of the Lawrence Family JCC, where the Jacobs serve on the advisory board.
The gift will strategically enhance the JCC’s work to build stronger bonds of unity and community, according to the center.
“Joan and I are hopeful that this gift further inspires the innovation and creativity for which the JCC is noted, strengthening the signature programs and services provided to members at this difficult time,” Irwin Jacobs said.
The Jacobs have been guiding the center since its move to its current location in La Jolla. The couple chaired the fundraising effort to build the JCC in La Jolla which now shares their name.
Irwin Jacobs is the founding chairman and CEO emeritus of Qualcomm and he and his wife have contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to the field of education through generous donations and grants to schools and organizations.
