Voices for Children Appoints New CEO

John Valencia has been named president and CEO of Voices for Children (VFC), the San Diego nonprofit organization that provides trained volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) for children in foster care.

Valencia, who will start in the new post Feb. 13, has two decades of senior nonprofit management experience in the areas of higher education, youth mobilization, and environmental sustainability, the organization announced. He recently served as the vice chancellor of workforce and organizational development at Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District where he oversaw a $50 million budget and led a team of 180 employees, VFC said in a statement. Valencia has served on numerous boards of directors and has experience working with the youth.

Founded in 1980, VFC recruits and trains CASA volunteers who advocate on behalf of foster children in court, school, and communities in San Diego and Riverside counties to ensure they end up in safe and permanent homes. Last year, VFC CASA volunteers and staff worked with more than 3,400 foster children, according to the nonprofit.
