Center of Sustainable Energy Names President

Lawrence E. Goldenhersh has been named permanent president of San Diego-based nonprofit Center for Sustainable Energy.

Goldenhersch, who has served as CSE’s interim president for almost a year, has a background in software entrepreneurship and has been an environmental advocate. He’s also served as former CSE board member. His appointment comes after an extensive nationwide search was done, according to a press release.

“CSE has earned a spot at the forefront of the clean energy revolution and the fight to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by delivering creative, cost-effective, equitable market-transformation programs that accelerate the adoption of renewable energy solutions,” said Goldenhersch in a statement, adding that he is looking forward to continuing the effort to drive clean energy.

During his year as interim president, Goldenhersh has increased the company’s employee headcount by 20 percent, opened two new offices (in Brooklyn, NY, and Sacramento, Calif.) and expanded the business to new states.

In 1999, Goldenhersh founded Enviance, Inc., an environmental technology company. He served as president and CEO until the company was sold in 2015. Prior to that, Goldenhersch was a partner at Irell & Manella, a Los Angeles-based law firm, where he focused on commercial litigation.

CSE’s 2018 annual revenues are projected to increase by more than 10 percent, thanks to the signing of new contracts, including for administration of the Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing program. The Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing program is a 10-year, $1 billion solar initiative in California that the center won. CSE is also expected to almost double surplus contributions from operations.

Additionally, CSE announced that Mary McGroarty, a partner at the accounting firm Lindsay & Brownell and current vice-chair of the CSE board of directors, will assume the role of board chair.
