ZeaKal Raises $3.8M in Series A Funding

San Diego-based plant science company ZeaKal Inc. has raised $3.8 million in Series A funding for its technology to increase crop yields.

The investment, led by San Diego life sciences venture fund Finestere Ventures, Sydney, Australia-based Two Oceans and the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council, will allow the startup to focus on bolstering crop yield for soybeans, rice and other megacrops.

ZeaKal was formed this year by Kapyon Ventures LLC, a small San Diego technology incubation firm. It will be conducting the development in partnership with the University of Missouri.
