The Ronald McDonald House Charities San Diego held its ROMP Roundup on Sept. 17 with Susan Hoehn and Bill Hoehn serving as honorary chairs. The event raised $330,000 to support the “home away from home” for families with children being treated for serious illnesses at local hospitals. Hoehn Motors of Carlsbad and Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians were major sponsors. Other sponsors included Best Best & Krieger, City National Bank and Dr Pepper Snapple Group. Another RMCHSD event held Sept. 28 raised $75,000 through donations collected at major intersections and roadside locations during the annual Red Shoe Day fundraiser … Seany Foundation’s 4th annual Everything IS Possible Celebration was held Sept. 17 at the Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla. Medical Center Pharmacy, Barona Resort & Casino, Eddy Pump Corp. and Kleinfelder were gold level sponsors. Jeffrey Strauss and Pamplemousse Grille provided the dinner. The $80,000 raised goes toward childhood cancer research and patient programs … Walden Family Services received a $61,000 grant from the Andrus Family Fund to be used to implement a framework to help foster youth transition from foster care to independent living … Pardee Homes raised $19,000 for research into the causes and cure of multiple sclerosis. The Pardee team participated in the three-day, Challenge MS Walk: Southern California, 50 mile walk along the San Diego coastline from Carlsbad to downtown San Diego … The Parkinson’s Association presented the 2011 Spirit of Life Award to trial lawyer Michael Thorsnes at its gala Oct. 9 at the Paradise Point Resort & Spa. Each year the award is given to an individual who has exemplified, through the activities of their daily life, a strong sense of perseverance, a refusal to give in as well as a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of those around them … Bail Hotline Bail Bonds held its 2nd annual 1000 Backpacks Giveaway on Sept. 7. Bail Hotline team members were at the Boys & Girls Club in Logan Heights … The National Alliance on Mental Illness honored Marc Schuckit, professor of psychiatry at the UC San Diego, at the group’s annual Inspirational Awards dinner Oct. 7 … Chula Vista Hills Elementary School and University City High School received a $2,500 donation through the Westfield Family “Give Back to School” program. The winning schools were chosen by Westfield shoppers. It is their hope the donations will go towards the areas of athletics, and arts and music. Westfield North County donated $2,500 to San Pasqual High School through the national program as well … HeadNorth donated a wheelchair accessible van to Raymond Magana who was injured when he was attacked while walking in Paradise Hills. He was shot twice, leaving him severely injured and paralyzed. Nice Guys and the Ability Center partnered with HeadNorth to make this donation possible … Liz Claiborne Inc. partnered with the San Diego Susan G Komen Foundation to present a runway show at Fashion Valley mall Sept. 24. Six breast cancer survivors were featured on stage wearing Lucky Brand jeans and were introduced by “Project Runway’s” Tim Gunn who is the chief creative officer for LCI. The Komen Foundation received a donation to help fight breast cancer on behalf of LCI.
