Craft juice startup OH! Juice has opened a new kind of tasting room, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find barrels of wine or beer on tap. Instead, how would you like to sample a blend of leafy greens? Or perhaps beets and berries are more to your liking?
OH! Juice, founded in 2013, originally sold its cold-pressed juice at San Diego’s farmers markets. Today, the company has its own location at T Short Galleries, along with its brand new tasting room in Carlsbad. The bright and airy tasting room was an expansion onto the company’s kitchen, which was partially funded through a Kickstarter campaign.
This is where 500 to 1,000 pounds of organic produce (much of it from local farms) is turned into the company’s juices, tonics and nondairy milks.
The company has grown from selling a couple hundred juices per week at the farmers markets to 300 bottles per day. Nearly half of OH! Juice’s customers are either signed up for the company’s six-week cleansing programs or pre-order a six pack at a time.
Hanna Gregor, CEO and owner of OH! Juice, said she hopes the tasting room will help customers make the right choices when stocking up on juice. After all, many juice newbies are turned off when they buy blends that aren’t right for their particular palate or health goals.
“(We) strive to eliminate any fears associated with juice cleanses through proper education,” Gregor said.
At the tasting room, people are able to sample juices, choose their favorite flavors and ask questions. OH! Juice employees staff the tasting room, offering customized cleanses and juice programs.
Whether customers want to start a juice cleanse, or they just want to swing in out of curiosity, the tasting room will introduce visitors to a trend that has turned the cold-pressed juice market into a $100 million-a-year business.
