San Diego Gas & Electric announced that customers can now use home area network devices to better understand their energy usage and lower costs.
The in-home energy display devices work in conjunction with the utility’s smart meters to show SDG&E customers how much energy they are using and help them identify power-hungry appliances so customers can reduce energy usage and costs.
The third-party devices allow users to see how much energy their homes are using in near real-time and range from $60-$120 per device.
SDG&E has tested which devices are compatible with the utility’s smart meters and found that Energy Aware Technology PowerTab In-Home Display, Rainforest Automation Energy Display (model EMU) and Rainforest Automation Energy Display (model EMU-2) meet the compatibility standards.
SDG&E customers can purchase an energy display device or connect their device to their electric smart meter by visiting sdge.com/han.
