National University announced recently that the partial federal government shutdown will not affect students in the armed forces who need tuition.
The La Jolla-based nonprofit said that, at least in the near term, it will pay the tuition costs for its active-duty military students while the federal government is shutdown.
National University said that its president, Michael Cunningham, made the decision.
The offer covers October and November, according to the institution. It covers active duty military students who received approval for courses prior to the government shutdown. If the government does not retroactively cover tuition, National University said it will credit each student’s account.
Some 13 percent of National University’s 30,000 students are military members on active duty.
