Output Up

Agriculture is still a regional powerhouse as the recently released San Diego County Annual Crop Report shows. The county’s agriculture output topped $1.8 billion for the first time since 2014. Even with COVID-19, the total value of agriculture crops and commodities rose 0.8% − mainly pushed by bedding plants together with a 9% increase in avocados.

This was enough to move the total values from $1,795,528,573 in 2019 to $1,810,326,411 in 2020.

This is the third time since 1990 that total values topped $1.8 billion. Nursery and cut flower products accounted for 70% of the value with fruit and nut crops accounting for more than 19%. The full report may be found at www.sandiegocounty.gov/content/sdc/awm/crop_statistics/ .
