The San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl generated a huge economic impact in the county in 2018, according to a report prepared by San Diego State University Center for Hospitality and Tourism Research.
The Dec. 31 SDCCU Holiday Bowl game created a record impact of $49.5 million, and the Oct. 27 Navy versus Notre Dame game garnered $25.6 million.
The $49.5 million surpassed the $40.7 million figure from 2009. Approximately 47,007 viewers attended the game, of which 68.5 percent were nonlocals. About 74.8 percent of the nonlocals stayed in hotels during their visit, with an average of 3.14 room nights per group and an estimated 24,073 hotel room nights sold due to the game, the report said.
The Oct. 27 Notre Dame versus Navy game brought out 62,626 fans, with 51.8 percent being nonlocals. An estimated 15,357 hotel room nights were booked as a result.
