The San Diego Rescue Mission received a $45,150 gift from Sempra Energy. Of those funds, $15,050 were contributed by Sempra employees, and the Sempra Energy Foundation matched these contributions two-to one for an additional $30,100 in funding. Sempra Energy has been a longtime supporter of the Rescue Mission and served as a partner for Sleepless San Diego in 2018. The gift will support SDRM’s Partners for Hunger Relief program.
Partners for Hunger Relief bolsters food recovery efforts throughout San Diego, serving a broad base of agencies and people. Through this special program, the Mission helps feed thousands of people each year. More than 100 grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, universities, hotels and hospitals contribute to feeding the homeless through the program every year.
Founded in 1955, San Diego Rescue Mission is a faith-based organization that offers safe-haven as well as restorative care and rehabilitation services to the homeless, addicted, abused and poor in our community. It’s the only major homeless shelter in San Diego that does not receive government funding for its programs. The organization exists entirely on donations.
